SENIOR IT SPECIALIST

The position: Senior IT Specialist

The Senior IT Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of all IT Systems, utilising free access controls, virus protection mechanism, disk usage monitoring and performing regular backups. He will also monitor IT Key Performance Indicators(KPIs) and alert IT Manager about any variance and also be involved in Troubleshooting.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the IT Manager, the Senior IT Specialist will be responsible for:
Developing, documenting and implementing policies and procedures related to support, security and backup in conjunction with the IT Manager.
Establishing and maintaining network user accounts, user environment, directories and security.
Creating and maintaining Technical manuals.
Monitoring and managing disk usage.
Training users on software and equipment usage.
Responding to the needs and questions of network users concerning their access to resources on the network and the operation of various software programmes.
Developing and communicating standards for use, operations, and security of network, personal computers and data.
Researching and evaluating new administration methods.
Installing and testing software upgrades.
Developing and implementing disaster recovery procedures
Coordinating and scheduling backups and communicating downtime to users.
Ensuring all software is correctly licensed and version up-to-date where applicable.
Preparing monthly KPI report. MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
M.Sc. in IT/Computer Science or related discipline;
At least three years experience working as a Database administrator for a medium to large private sector organization.
Proven experience in implementing local area networks.
Sound experience in systems integration and administration.
Substantial knowledge about computer hardware configurations for UNIX, Win 2003, Cisco and Oracle environments and Microsoft products.
Exercising leadership in changing situations that stimulates enthusiasm among and encourages development of co-workers;
Capable of developing strategic plans for an entire activity and establish priorities for the activities of subordinates in order to fulfill these plans.
Ability to work under pressure with detailed plans and forecasts, anticipate potential resource constraints and diagnose, evaluate and resolve such problems as they happen.
Capable of establishing priorities for maintenance in accordance with overall objectives and IT goals
Good decision-making and problem solving skills
Effective communication skills
